The Politics of Everyday Life: How to Implement a design-based collaborative democracy
In this lecture, Professor Manzini will propose an idea, a scenario and some courses of action. The idea: People and communities should have the opportunity to design their lives, to do it in collaboration with others and, in so doing, achieve impactful results for themselves and society as a whole. The scenario: A society in which this idea can be realized as a collaborative, design-based democracy that both enables and is animated by, a multiplicity of projects. Courses of action: form the basis or foundation for the idea and scenario to be put into practice and begin with leveraging projects and initiatives that are already underway.
Ezio has explored design potentialities in different fields, such as: Design of Materials, in the 80s; Strategic Design, in the 90s; Service Design, in the last ten years. Presently, he is Honorary Professor at the Politecnico di Milano and Guest Professor at Tongji University (Shanghai). His most recent book is “Design, When Everybody Designs. An Introduction to Design for Social Innovation”, MIT Press 2015.
This lecture took place on 02/20/2017 at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design.
