Presentations & demos of 11 mini-projects from the Play Lab strand of the Senior Design Labs. Covering everything from "non-geographic countries" to "design for a gender-neutral society", the quick 2-week projects creatively explore ambiguity in design and futures through building on and extrapolating "micro-futures" identified in the present, including questioning the side-effects and the everyday frictions of possible futures, and design's role in them.

An introduction to shaping communication artifacts using type, image, sound, and motion in four different projects. Topics include grid analysis of print and/or online publications; hierarchy and typographic form; typeface analysis and animations. The course's goal is an understanding of how content and context influence form and communication, from concept to iteration to execution.

An exploration of time as a design element when working with word, image, sound, and motion in the service of communication on screen. Students develop responses to a variety of project briefs, with an emphasis on visual voice, performance, and communication. Differences between paper-based and screen-based communication become departure points for projects.

The final project "The Perfect Lawn" – is a complex social and environmental problem where teams researched, conceptualized, and proposed product solutions as part of a system that addresses the storage, fertilization, and water usage associated with US residential lawn care. Central questions were how to create product value and influence positive user behavior towards reducing impact on the environment?
