Visits for Prospective Students

Prospective doctoral applicants are encouraged to visit the School of Design whenever possible. A visit is an excellent opportunity to meet with faculty who may advise on your research to ascertain if there is a good fit. Doctoral applicants are welcome to join other prospective graduate students visiting at three times during the academic year:

November 2016

This a full day in which visitors are immersed in our program, and experience a “day in the life” at the School of Design. It includes:

  • Coffee with current graduate students
  • A graduate seminar course
  • An hour-long luncheon session, with discussion of our master’s and doctoral programs and answers to your questions
  • A graduate studio course 
  • Opportunity for doctoral applicants to meet doctoral students

December 2016

This day coincides with a masters thesis review and is a great opportunity to meet with students and discuss their work and experiences at CMU. The day includes:

  • A thesis poster exhibition
  • Lunch with students and faculty members
  • An information session, with discussion of our master’s and doctoral programs and answers to your questions

March 2017

This day coincides with a final review of thesis projects and is a great opportunity to meet with students and see their work as it nears completion. The day includes:

  • A thesis poster exhibition
  • Lunch with students and faculty members
  • An information session, with discussion of our master’s and doctoral programs and answers to your questions
