CMU Design League goes to Toronto

Vinita Israni

Recently, 44 design students (42 undergraduates and 2 graduate students) packed up and boarded a bus to Toronto, Canada to check out leading design firms. The CMU Design League planned a trip to one of the leading design capitals of the world in an effort to gain an intimate look into the international design industry. Such a trip is planned each semester with a new destination each time. The students got a chance to speak to employees and founders in both large and small companies. The firms were from a variety of disciplines including furniture design, industrial design, communication design, exhibition design, and animation to name a few. The lineup of companies included Teehan+Lax, Reich + Petch, StackLab,  and Compass 360.

In addition to professional development presentations, the students got to explore Toronto, taking advantage of the numerous museums, rich art culture, and beautiful architecture.

The trip helped to solidify students' expectations of what to look forward to within the design industry, as well as receive insider advice. It also presented CMU Design to an international community, building global connections.

After leaving the studio, the students returned reenergized and motivated to continue working on their passions.
