It's Design Week for the Fall 2021 Semester! This semester, we invite our students, staff, faculty, the greater CMU community to join us in our design studios and workspaces as we view and celebrate all of the work and projects our students put together over the course of a semester. Unfortunately, we can't open these presentations to the public this semester (unless otherwise noted).

Tuesday, November 30th

11:00am - 12:30pm -  With(in), a PhD and MDes Seminar III Showcase
With(in) is the culmination of the Seminar in Design Theory & Practice course taught by Dina El-Zanfaly and Marysol Ortega Pallanez at Carnegie Mellon's School of Design. During the event, you will engage in a set of activities, conversations and games that reflect on the nature of design process that is based on inquiry, introspection and sharing.

A walk-around presentation format of dissected products. Students investigate a chosen product to understand the unique aspects of the materials, manufacturing, and assembly processes.

NOT Open to Campus. Collaborative project with Daimler Trucks to develop a method for managing autonomous vehicles.

Wednesday, December 8th

9:00am - 12:00pm - MDes/MPS Communication Design Studio
MMCH 215
MPS and first year MDes students will present their work from the final project in the course, which focuses on the visualization of data pertaining to Pittsburgh. Seven teams of students will deliver ten minute preseentations—each followed by five minutes of discussion.

2:00 - 4:00pm - Experimental Form / Furniture

Science Fair style demos from the Experimental Form course plus exhbition of furniture pieces from the Furniture Course.

NOT open to campus. Students exhibit final projects: functional prototypes of dynamic digital interaction systems

Thursday, December 9th

9:00 - 11:00am - Design Principles & Practices

MA students present their "100 Days" projects. Beginning on the first day of class, each student performed a "design operation" that they repeated for 100 straight days. (Inspired by Michael Bierut.)

9:30 - 11:30am - Products Studio III: Designing for Complex Products Systems (Closed to the Public)
After 1:00pm the design community can stop by and see the work on their own.

Carnegie Library of Oakland
The culmination of the semester will end with a one-day, public-facing pop-up exhibition on the Future of Museums housed on the 2nd floor of the Carnegie Library of Oakland.

6:00 - 6:45pm - MDes II Science Fair

MDes II students invite all those interested in their thesis investigations and who can't make the in-person session on Friday to attend formal presentations of their work to date. A detailed schedule is forthcoming. RSVP to attend via Zoom.
