PhD in Transition Design
Madeline Sides is a strategic product developer from California. The center of gravity for her work to-date is healthcare and life sciences, with professional experiences as an entrepreneur and a design consultant. Madeline has conducted research and designed products in a wide range of settings, including India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. She holds a BS in Bioengineering with a focus in sustainable agriculture and a MS in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in product realization and manufacturing, both from Stanford University.
Through work in medical product design, Madeline has learned to articulate unmet needs and navigate complex systems at local, regional and national scales. She believes that many of these systems must be intentionally modified through design to better serve the earth and its inhabitants. As a native of California's agricultural Central Valley, Madeline would also like to explore the roles that Transition Design has to play in addressing global food insecurity.
