Tim Cunningham

Tim is a product designer, businessman, and teacher who works with companies to make products useful and profitable. A founder of Pittsburgh product development firm Daedalus, Tim has engaged with the firm’s designers, engineers, and user researchers to help clients both small and large make successful design decisions.
After 30+ years of building Daedalus, Tim began a second career as a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University, capitalizing on his product experience to teach in the graduate entrepreneurial program in the Tepper School of Business and in the School’s of Engineering and Design’s Master’s of Product Development program.
Tim is a Fellow of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), and has served as a board member of the Association of Professional Design Firms, and as president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum. A graduate of UCLA (BA, MA), Tim has taught at The Ohio State University, and is the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for the study of design history. He has consulted or lectured on design in Korea, Ukraine, Taiwan, and Singapore. In 2011, he was the commencement speaker for CMU’s Master’s of Product Development program. Prior to founding Daedalus, Tim worked for Henry Dreyfuss Associates, Westinghouse Electric, and Bally Design.
