Experiential Futures at the World Economic Forum

On April 6th – 8th, the World Economic Forum (WEF) hosted its first ever Global Technology Governance Summit (GTGS), bringing thousands of leading technologists, academics, businesspeople, policymakers and political representatives together to discuss the sprawling array of fast-moving challenges in this space. Associate Professor Stuart Candy and his Experiential Futures class were virtually on hand to present work they did as part of a project where they created "artifacts of the future."

Dexign Futures Unleashed at Tsinghua University in Beijing

In his first trip to Beijing, the School of Design’s Peter Scupelli delivered a three-day international workshop at the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Research Center. Scupelli also delivered a keynote speech titled “Olympics as Desirable Futures” and was nominated to the China National Art Fund, which trains innovative art tech talents for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Stuart Candy Unleashes “The Thing From the Future” at SXSW

The School of Design's Stuart Candy took his card game, "The Thing From the Future," to South by Southwest this spring to help teach mayors from around the country to think like futurists. "The Thing From The Future" is an award-winning imagination game and tool for envisioning alternative tomorrows. It is published by the Situation Lab, a collaboration between Candy and Jeff Watson, a professor in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.
