Design Alumna Launches Kickstarter for Morris the Reversible Fish

Rachel Ciavarella, an Industrial Design Alumna from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design, recently launched a Kickstarter for Morris, an interactive stuffed animal that encourages you to turn him inside out and explore his innards. Morris, who is made out of 7 different fabrics from fleece to chiffon, was originally conceived as part of a project in the Experimental Form class at the School of Design.

Design Alumna Serves as Designer-In-Residence in Kortrijk

Graduates of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design go on to a broad range of opportunities, applying the making and thinking skills they’ve learned here to diverse areas of work. Catherine Oldershaw, a 2016 graduate of the School of Design’s Masters of Arts in Design program, is one of three designers who were selected for a designers-in-residence program in Kortrijk, a city in West Flanders, Belgium.

Design Alumnus Curates the Interactive News

Alexander Cheek, a School of Design alumnus and an Assistant Professor of Design and Information Systems at Carnegie Mellon University, is the driving force behind the Interactive News, a visionary archive of the best examples of digital and interactive journalism today. The Interactive News serves as a resource for educators, journalists, and designers to see past and current practices in visual storytelling, data presentation, long-form narratives, and event-specific coverage.

Jody Lange, Design Alumna, Passes Away

The School of Design is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jody Lange at the age of 65. Jody was a Communications Planning and Information Design Alumna and worked as the Marketing Director and Chief Creative Officer for Burston-Marstellar. Jody is remembered by the faculty that knew her as a fabulous writer with a memorable sense of humor.
