In the Making: School of Design Class of 2025 Senior Show

In the Making is the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design Class of 2025’s senior show. It is a cumulation of four years of work across three disciplines in design from 38 designers represented through over 250 projects.

The School of Design curriculum starts with a foundational year, where we are brought together as first-years to experience a deep dive into design processes. We cut cardboard, drew cubes, made friends, and began to discover who we were not only as designers, but as people. From there, we chose one of the three tracks that the School of Design has to offer: Products, Communications, and Environments. We dove head-first into exploring what those disciplines would mean for each of us.

In the Making draws work from across those years, capturing moments of progression and growth as we learn how to tackle big ideas in the world through the language of design.

It represents work we’ve created in electives where we explored and expanded our disci-plines. It comes to a close with our capstones, the cumulative product of all the learnings and skills we’ve gathered represented through one final project. We are proud to share with you how far we’ve come.

Our senior show is a culmination of the work, but it’s also a celebration of us. In the four years we’ve been together, our class has done it all. From backyard potlucks to ER visits to more studio late-nights that we can count, all the things we have accomplished in our time could never just be defined by the work itself. We are designers, each with our own views
and strengths and trajectories, but we are also a collective. We are friends and confidants and cheerleaders for one another. We are grateful for having been on this journey together.

We hope that your experience here provides a glimpse into our time here at the School of Design, but what you should know is that we are still in progress. We are excited for what tomorrow has to bring, what new challenges the world has to offer. What new tools, new briefs, new crazy tides are on our horizons. Our time at the School of Design is coming to an end, but we are just at the beginning.
