Ayako Aratani

Please join us for another edition of our Design Lecture Series with Ayako Aratani, Founder of Ayako Aratani Design Studio.

Born and raised in Chiba, Japan, Ayako pushes the boundaries of what furniture can be. She has a deep appreciation for the importance of balance, harmony, and imperfection and believes that functional objects not only serve a purpose but also evoke metaphor and storytelling. After graduating from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Ayako started her own studio practice in Pontiac, Michigan, outside of Detroit. Instead of relying on mass-production processes, she prefers hands-on methods as an answer to more sustainable production practices. Museums and galleries exhibiting her work include the Walker Art Center, the Wasserman Project Gallery, Salone Satellite in Milan, and the Interior Design Show in Toronto. ayakodesignstudio.com
