Graphic Design USA, a source of news and information for graphic designers and the broader creative community for the past 60 years, has named Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design students Ricky Chen (BDes '24) and Jacky Lococo (BDes '24) as two of their Students to Watch for 2023.

John was an incredibly accomplished product designer who was hired by the Ford Motor Company right out of his senior year at CMU. John’s work could be seen all throughout the automotive industry and his presence and expertise will truly be missed.
Jiyeon Chun, a junior at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design studying Product Design and Human-Computer Interaction (BDes ’24), spent this past summer interning with Petit Pli, a London-based material technology company. You may have heard of Petit Pli’s best known creation to date, “Clothes that Grow,” which are garments that grow with children for up to seven sizes.
At the start of 2023, Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design students Anupriya Gupta, Elaine Lu, and Youngryun Cho were awarded kynamatrix Research Network's "Innovation through Collaboration" grants for projects in design, engineering, and computer science.
After a few years of battling cancer, Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design alumnus, Andrew Cramer (Andy), passed away on New Year’s Eve. He is survived by his wife and two young children. Andy called Pittsburgh home and had fond memories of his time at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design, where he earned his Master of Design (M.Des. ‘06).
On January 1, 2023, Professor Eric Anderson was appointed Interim Head of the School of Design after Bruce Hanington stepped down. Hanington will take a leave during the spring 2023 semester and return to the faculty in fall 2023.
Industrial Designer Lee-Anne Stossell graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design in 2000. Throughout her successful career in Industrial Design, she has won multiple design awards and is listed on multiple utility and design patents.
