The School of Design is thrilled to welcome Reejy Mikhail, a current Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano in Italy, as a visiting scholar this year.
This year, Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design Master’s of Design student Kimberly Blacutt (MDes ’25), a registered Landscape Architect with a passion for shaping spaces that evolve and adapt, was chosen as the recipient the prestigious Hambrose Fellowship. Sponsored by Design Alumnus Harold Hambrose (BA ’89) and his wife Johanna Hambrose, both from the consulting firm Zenda, the Hambrose Fellowship will sponsor Blacutt through the duration of her academic career.
Hillary Carey is a designer, researcher, educator, and most recently, a PhD in Transition Design. Last month, Hillary successfully defended her dissertation, "Social Design Dreaming: Designing Future Visions of Racial Justice" here at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design.

Last week, the Joseph Ballay Center for Design Fusion debuted Containment, Care + Community, a six-day exhibition of work from earlier and more recent periods of pandemic life exploring social and spatial prospects for preventing contagion, providing care, and building community. The show was curated and directed by the School of Architecture’s Nida Rehman and was sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Arts in Society.
With happy hearts and brave faces, the School of Design is proud to announce that after 35 years, Associate Head Melissa White Cicozi is retiring from the School of Design.
Uluwehi Mills, a second year MDes student at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design, recently launched Maui on My Mind, a website that serves as a giving, advocacy, and shopping guide for faraway friends of Maui. After suffering the deadliest natural disaster in the state of Hawaii’s history, Maui on My Mind looks to be a resource for faraway supporters to give with impact, and for Maui residents to have something that’s easy to share with loved ones.
