Eric Anderson, Professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design, was honored with the Design Management Institute (DMI) Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2025 dmi:New Voices Shaping Design Futures Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. The recognition was celebrated again during the 50th Anniversary of the Design Management Institute, held in Boston from September 15–17, 2025.

At the New Voices conference, five outstanding DMI members were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the field of Design Management and their long-standing dedication to the Institute. Through thought leadership and tireless support of DMI’s mission, these individuals have helped shape the global conversation around design and innovation. Anderson was honored alongside Craig Vogel (Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award), Sean Hughes (Outstanding Member Award), Sophia Jaberi (Outstanding Volunteer Award), and Harrison Pendleton (Student Leader Award).

The Design Management Institute (DMI) is the premier global non-profit organization that connects, promotes, and elevates the role of Design, Design Management, and Design Innovation in business, culture, and society. At Carnegie Mellon, Anderson’s teaching and research center on design innovation, strategy, and diversity, with a focus on how design can inspire organizational change. He has been instrumental in shaping curricula that integrate design thinking and doing with business and engineering, preparing students to lead in complex and rapidly evolving contexts. His leadership at Carnegie reflects the same commitment to advancing the role of design in culture and society that DMI recognized with this award.

Anderson was among more than 100 participants who gathered in Boston for the anniversary event, where Carnegie Mellon University was well represented. In addition to Anderson, attendees included Boyuan Guo, a MIIPS student; Kyle Vice (MDes ’09), Director of Experience Design Quality and Design Director of UX at Philips; Anu Melville (BA ’06); and Mark Prommel (BA ’98), Partner and Design Director at Pensa.
