Molly Wright Steenson Appointed K&L Gates Professorship

The School of Design's Molly Wright Steenson has been appointed to new professorships created with funding from the K&L Gates Endowment for Ethics and Computational Technologies at CMU. This professorship will enable CMU to continue its leadership in the ethical, social and policy issues that arise as artificial intelligence and other computing technologies increasingly reshape society and daily life.

Students and Faculty Share their Research at Pittsburgh Maker’s Faire

On October 14th and 15th, members of the Carnegie Mellon University Imaginaries Lab shared their ongoing research at Pittsburgh's annual Maker Faire. The project, entitled "Electric Acoustic" and funded by a CFA Fund for Research & Creativity Award, explores the "sonification of energy use – turning data into sound."

Thomas Merriman Wins Henry Hornbostel Teaching Award

Thomas Merriman, a Teaching Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design, just received the Henry Hornbostel Teaching Award this past April. The Hornbostel Award, which is the College of Fine Arts' annual recognition for teaching excellence, is named after Henry Hornbostel, the first Dean of the College of Fine Arts and the architect and designer of several Carnegie Mellon University buildings including the College of Fine Arts Building, Baker Hall, Doherty Hall, Hammerschlag Hall and Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall.
