"I grew up in a Japanese household where design was all around me from a young age. I was lucky enough to travel to Tokyo almost every summer, where tradition crossed modern, and colors and shapes seemed to be used differently than in the US. Products being sold were different as well. I remember this coral pink, white, and teal SONY Discman I owned. I said to my father, an engineer, 'I want to design the exterior of electronics, not the interior. What is that called?'. This is when I learned about Industrial Design."
