MDes/MPS Communication Design Studio: Navigating Spaces

Tagged as: Communications, Graduate, MDes: Master of Design, MPS: Master of Professional Studies
Navigation through physical and digital communication pieces is often impeded when the structure of those pieces are difficult to decipher, are in conflict with our expectations, and/or misaligned to the mental models we create. To better understand how design impacts the navigation of communication pieces, students analyzed websites and books, paying close attention to personal preconceived notions, inherent form structures and navigational cues, and individual mental models. As a result of their inquiry, students created visual diagrams that describe their discoveries. They also noted communication theories to support the framework of their diagrams and bridge a relationship between the piece’s inherent structure and their mental model.
